Less than two years ago, the Dumbuck was on the brink of closure but today our family is delighted to announce our success in a prestigious UK-wide competition.
Travellers using online booking site rated The Dumbuck House Hotel second in the Most Improved Hotel category of the Simply the Guest Awards 2016.
Or 20-bedroom family-run Glasgow Road hotel was one of only two finalists from north of the border, beating off stiff competition from a number of hotels owned and managed by large national companies, including Hilton, Ramada and Ibis.
Hotel owner Petra McMillan believes the award is a major step in the family’s ambition to create a first-class hotel, wedding and function venue for the region.
“Our guests are our harshest critics, so we are very proud to know that they think we’re on the right track,” she said.
“To be recognised for the transformation to date in facilities and service, is wonderful but we won’t be resting on our laurels, we’re constantly looking to improve our guest experience and we’re excited to take the Dumbuck to the next level.
“We may not have the budget of the national chains but perhaps our personal touch and close attention to delivering a warm and friendly service is what makes us stand out.”
Since taking over the Dumbuck in May 2014, the McMillan family have been working through a £500,000 renovation programme to restore and improve the 18th century landmark with the creation of three new luxury family suites, a new Bar & Grill restaurant and a refurbished Grand Hall which can cater for up to 220 guests.
In 2016, the McMillans look to continue their investment with the creation of three new disabled access suites.
